Why I’m headed to Austin, TX ✈️

I’m currently writing this from gate D11 at Dulles airport in Washington D.C…

About to head to Austin, Texas, to visit our brand new SamCart offices for the first time.

I’m excited to see it.

I’ll send you pics when I get there.

During the 45-minute car ride to the airport, I had some time to myself to think…

And the memory of the scariest day of my life kept popping up in my head…

That day was back in 2011 in Washington, D.C.

It was the first time I ever spoke on a big stage.

It was a Yanik Silver event.

If you’ve never heard of Yanik, at the time, he was one of the biggest names in the internet marketing industry…

And every year, he held an event called the Underground Internet Marketing Seminar.

All the big players in the industry would attend.

I was just a visitor to the event the previous year…

So it felt surreal to be on stage speaking in front of some people I looked up to.

I was the youngest speaker at the event, just a few years removed from college.

But I had just started making six figures a month, and Yanik was impressed with my growth.

However, the scene of me backstage prepping for my presentation was far less impressive…

And it was a little embarrassing.

My brother Scott jokes about it all the time…

He was trying to hype me up (he’s the extrovert, I’m the introvert)

But there I was, taking deep breaths into a paper bag, trying to stop myself from hyperventilating.

I know you’re probably thinking that’s an overreaction…

And even I laugh now when I think about it…

Especially since now, I’ve spoken on many different stages all over the world…

But at the time, it was the first time that I had ever spoken in front of a big room of adults.

Lucky for me, I didn’t choke on stage like Eminem in the movie 8 Mile

Once the lights were on me, the fear disappeared.

It was kind of like the feeling you get before participating in an athletic event…

There are usually butterflies in your stomach until that first coin flip, ball toss, or at-bat.

But once the game gets going, your adrenaline takes over.

So why am I telling you this?

Well, I’m not sure I would be about to board this plane to Austin to visit our new office if I hadn’t faced my fear of speaking at the event.

You see, I could have backed out and stayed home.

But I didn’t.

And not because I cared about being a “big deal” and saying I spoke at Yanik’s event (ok, maybe a little bit)

But I was there mainly to build relationships with some of the smartest people in the industry…

So that I could learn more from people that were where I wanted to be.

It was the only way to continue to elevate.

Here’s why I bring this up…

The fastest way to level up your life and your business is to learn from the best…

…to learn from people that have already done what you are trying to do.

That will save you a lot of time and money in the long run.

But sometimes you may have to invest in yourself…

And sometimes you may have to face your fears…

Just to be able to brush shoulders and get access to people that are at the level you want to be at…

But it’s worth it.

That’s why my brother Scott and I have been working on a pet project that will give you easy access to the smartest business owners and marketers in the world…

So you can copy and paste their strategies into your own business.

But more on that tomorrow…

They just called my group to board the airplane.

So I gotta run.

Catch you tomorrow,

-Brian
