Insight #2

So yesterday, I told you how to go about finding a niche to get into.

But then we discussed that one thing that holds many people back is that they don’t believe they are an expert or credible enough to sell anything.

They don’t believe anybody will buy anything from them.

I used to believe the same thing when I started my baseball training business back in 2009. 

You see, I was never an MLB professional baseball player or coach.

Sure, I played Division 2 college baseball… 

But there were plenty of people more “qualified” than me.

I didn’t let that stop me, though.

I remember working as a coach at camp for youth players, and they ate up every word I had to say.

My head coach said, “Brian, these guys really enjoy learning from you. You are helping them a lot.”

But why did those players even listen to me?

Well, I realized then that it was because I was simply “one step ahead” of them, and I was able to show them quick solutions to their problems. 

It instantly made me a credible authority.

At that point, I knew that I could probably help more people just like them.

People don’t want to go from A to Z.

They just want to go from A to B.

If you can help people do that, you could instantly position yourself as a credible authority in any niche.

To do this, all you have to do is follow the “One Step Ahead Rule.”

But long story short, my mentality was this…

Sure, I didn’t play pro baseball—so maybe I wasn’t in the top 1-5% of players…

But I did play college baseball—so I was probably in the top 20%. 

That meant 80% of baseball players on the planet could learn something from me.

This is where I disagree with the “experts” who say you need to spend 10,000 hours to be an expert in something.

That’s B.S.

All it does is keep you from achieving your dream of owning a business and helping others.

Imagine if you could only teach other people if you had 10,000 hours of practice on a topic…

There would be ZERO teachers in the world.

I mean, I don’t even know if I’ve spent 10,000 hours learning marketing…

But I’ve successfully sold over thousands of products online.  

You see, it’s not about the 10,000-Hour Rule. It’s about The One Step Ahead Rule.

If you’re teaching people to lose weight and somebody is 20 lbs overweight, and you’re only 5 lbs overweight, you’re one step ahead.

Would it be nice if you were in impeccable shape with a cut-up six-pack looking like a WWE superstar? Of course. But in the end, it’s not necessary.

Like I said, I was not the best baseball player in the world…

But I still could sell tens of thousands of dollars worth of baseball training material that I wrote in a simple Microsoft Word document. 

Don’t let imposter syndrome prevent you from getting started.

It’s an illusion.

You have to start sometime, somewhere.

Why not here? Why not now?

You are more than capable of doing it.

All you have to do is dive into a niche you’re passionate about, create a product to help people and sell it to them.

Tomorrow, I’ll show you an easy way to figure out what your product should be about, so prospects line up to buy it.
