Free vs Paid Traffic... which is better for you?

Yesterday I talked about how traffic is the lifeblood of any business.

The more people that see your product, the more potential customers you will have.

So obviously, it makes sense that you would want to get as MUCH traffic as possible.

But where do you start?

First, it’s crucial to know that there are two primary types of traffic you can get to your website…

  1. Paid Traffic
  2. Free (Organic) Traffic.

Paid traffic requires money (obviously).

You create a simple ad and then pay to put it in front of people. 

The cool thing about paid advertising is that once you have it optimized and working, you control how high you scale it.

But again, paid traffic costs money. 

And if your sales systems aren’t fully optimized, you’ll lose all your money.

So you have to be careful.

On the flip side, you have organic traffic.

Organic traffic is FREE—as it doesn’t cost any money to generate…

But you will have to invest your time. 

That’s because it takes time to create content and upload it.

Not too much time… but more than it takes to create and run a simple ad.

So with paid traffic, you can spend more money to reach more people…

But with organic traffic, you can create more content to post on different social platforms to reach more people. 

Fans will follow and engage with you if you post great content. 

And as you get more views, the social platforms will serve your content to more people. 

That’s how you grow organically. 

So should you go with Paid or Organic traffic first?

I usually tell most people to start with organic traffic.

Here’s why…

#1 – You literally have nothing to lose, other than the time it takes to create the content. Paid traffic can be scary with money on the line, especially when you are just getting started. 

#2 – It helps you build your brand. As great as paid advertising may be, the companies with the best brands are the ones that have grown through more organic traffic strategies.

#3 – Once you start selling your products via organic traffic it will validate that you potentially have a winner with paid traffic. If your warm organic traffic doesn’t buy your product, it’s very unlikely that cold paid traffic will buy. 

That 3rd reason is essential.

Because it leads to a snowball effect.

See, the more money you make from organic traffic, the more you have to spend on paid traffic…

And the more money you spend on paid traffic, the more people see your brand…

Which leads to them searching for you on social platforms, consuming your free content, and sharing it with others.

Like I said, a snowball effect that never stops growing.

That’s how you make a lot of money online and build an antifragile business that lasts even through the toughest of times. 

So here’s what I recommend to you:

Read this email a few times to make sure you understand these fundamental concepts.

They are vital to your online success.

Then start posting content immediately on platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, or Podcasts…

Start forming and rolling that snowball.
